The Grain District Development is an exciting new chapter in Bondurant’s downtown evolution. Championed through the 2024 Downtown Redevelopment Plan, this underutilized area will be transformed into a walkable, mixed-use neighborhood. With a focus on vibrant retail, dining, and residential spaces with thoughtfully designed public amenities, the Grain District is set to become a bustling hub for community life and economic growth.
Project Goals
- Create
a vibrant, hometown-inspired destination across 24 acres featuring
offices, condos, apartments, hotels, and civic spaces.
- Extend
the Chichaqua Valley Trail through the site to seamlessly connect
cyclists and trail users to the heart of the community.
- Attract businesses, residents, and visitors to Bondurant
- Preserve the iconic grain bins as a nod to Bondurant’s agricultural roots
Construction Updates
Weekly Recap: August 11–16
- Rognes Corp began installation of the 8” sanitary sewer main through the new Lincoln Street NE extension. Completing over half of the new sanitary sewer main for the Grain District and installing new sanitary service stubs to be used in future development of the Grain District.
Weekly Outlook: August 18–23
- Rognes Corp will continue installation of the sanitary sewer main, sanitary sewer services, and sanitary manholes. Once the sanitary sewer installation is complete, they will move on to new water main for the area.
General Notes
- Construction is expected to last through late 2025. Railroad Street will be closed to traffic during the construction period from Main Street SE through the intersection of Lincoln Street SE. Residents affected by the construction will have temporary access to their driveways during this time, with exception of a few brief stages of work. The contractor will provide notification to the affected residents when they will not have access.
