The East River Recreational Trail Master Plan aims to tackle challenges arising from East River flooding and ensure year-round accessibility. Additionally, it proposes strategies to enhance wildlife habitats along the trail. To accomplish this, the Master Plan will include project concepts developed to address trail access concerns in key areas while enhancing and restoring the wildlife habitats that draw trail users to the area.
Project Goals
- Enhance trail accessibility by addressing flood-prone areas.
- Restore and improve fish and wildlife habitat along the East River corridor.
- Identify funding sources and outline implementation strategies.
Key Considerations
- Public input will be used in the planning process to develop project concepts. Priorities will be developed in part from public input identifying areas most prone to flood.
- Public information will include input to identify areas of 1) heavy trail usage, 2) greatest impact during flooding, and 3) limited alternative routes during flooding.
- The project concepts will be built upon the findings of studies completed for the area. These studies have identified the priority concerns that impact the East River.
