The City of Spearfish is developing Phase 2 of the Spearfish Creek Preservation Plan to establish project concept designs that maintain public access to the creek while preserving and improving the creek's ecological function. To guide project concept development, the City is seeking input from the public on their use of the Spearfish Creek Corridor.

Phase 1 of the Spearfish Creek Preservation Plan was completed in August of 2025. For more information on Phase 1 and to review the Preservation Plan document refer to https://www.spearfish.gov/930/Spearfish-Creek-Preservation-Plan.

Phase 2 Project Goals

  • Engage the public, stakeholders, and agency partners through open houses, online tools, and workshops
  • Develop and refine project concept designs for priority creek locations
  • Integrate feedback into an updated master plan document with goals, strategies, and implementation actions

Phase II will result in a finalized master plan that provides a practical roadmap for future creek improvements, balancing recreation, ecological health, and long-term community benefit.

We Want To Hear From You!

Public input is critical to the success of Phase 2 of the Spearfish Creek Preservation Plan. The Creek Corridor Public Use Survey and Project Map below provide the first of three opportunities to provide this input. This input, as well as Open House #1, are intended to provide background on Phase 1 of this project and gather general feedback on the use of Spearfish Creek and the Creek Corridor. The information gathered from these first engagement efforts will be used to develop the draft project concept designs which will be shared during Open House #2 for public review and comment.
