Progress is being made by Wells Concrete in setting precast at the construction site.

On December 12, a group from MCW, ISG, and RA Morton went to Wells Concrete to look at panels in progress.

Wells Concrete pours each panel individually and numerous people are involved in setting the brick patterns, reveals, and coordinating electrical, mechanical, and structural elements.

There are approximately:
– 209 Hollowcore slabs
– 88 beams
– 50 Columns
– 128 Double-Tees
– 26 Flat Slabs
– 392 Wall Panels

Each panel is poured upside down in the form as that is the best way to control quality of the surface. This shows the brick pattern that will be inlaid into the concrete.

Every reveal is cut out a plastic material that is then laid into the panel to form the relief pattern.

Each opening is blocked out with wood.

Insulation is laid between layers of concrete inside the panel for thermal performance. Metal strands and ties are within the concrete to tie all the concrete together.

Trucks are driven into the plant to help pour concrete into the beds once everything is laid into place.

Finishing of the panels includes washing wax off the brick that allows it to come out of the formliner easily.

Sand blasting or an acid etch is done to certain parts of the panel to affect the color and texture of the panel.

Finished panels are stored on site waiting to be put on a truck and brought to the construction site.
